Restoring the Atlantic Fishery: A Call to Action

Welcome

Welcome to our website. We invite you to join us in a collective 50-year effort to restore the Atlantic fishery to its historic abundance. Over the past five decades, NOAA has consistently demonstrated transparency by providing records that reveal a persistent decline in fish populations—a trend that unfortunately continues to this day. The full potential of our Atlantic fishery remains unknown, largely because, by the time the United States extended its control of ocean territory from 12 nautical miles to 200 nautical miles under the Magnuson-Stephens Act (MSA) in 1976, the waters had already been heavily over-fished by foreign fleets. Despite this, we believe the possibilities for recovery and growth are substantial.

Our Purpose

The primary aim of this website is to establish an effective communications network among all stakeholders involved in the Atlantic fishery. This includes commercial and recreational fishermen, charter and party boat operators, and various businesses connected to or benefiting from these activities. By fostering collaboration and sharing information, we hope to strengthen the community and support sustainable practices.

A New Era

This initiative marks the beginning of a new era for the Atlantic Fishery, an era symbolized by the sunrises featured throughout our pages. We encourage you to become a part of this transformative journey and help shape the future of our fishery.
